What does clean mean to us?

Clean beauty is associated with natural beauty, green beauty, and all other types of beauty that deviate from what we consider the norm.

To us, a clean beauty product at its core means that you can use a product without risking your own health. The ingredients label must contain only safe, non-toxic ingredients.

Clean beauty isn’t about being 100% perfect. This means that man-made ingredients can be clean as long as they’re safe and non-toxic. This also means that clean beauty doesn’t have to be all natural, preservative-free, organic etc. Clean beauty is synonymous with non-toxic beauty.

Clean beauty products focuses on eliminating as many toxins as possible from our daily products, while still doing ‘what it says it does’.

After lots of research, we at Skinstory have our very own blacklist when it comes to clean beauty:

  1. Without Talc
  2. Without Parabens
  3. Without mineral oil and waxes.
  4. Without Silicones
  5. Without plastic beads

We do however like our clean beauty products to be plant-derived, vegan, and cruelty free, eco-friendly and sustainable wherever possible.

WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN GREENWASHING!

What is greenwashing?

Greenwashing is a term many beauty brands adopt. It’s when a company uses very little of the “clean ingredients” and highlights it in a way as it can be passed off as “clean” (for marketing purposes) but it has no functional qualities of being clean. Many companies do this as their ‘marketing claim’ to capture their customers’ attention who care about health and sustainability, rather than the product being functionally beneficial.
